Acid Reflux Surgery
Acid Reflux Surgery may be a solution. Acid reflux, if suffered in high levels and too frequently, can cause serious health problems and lead to acid reflux disease. The condition should be treated in time with proper guidance from your doctor. There are many alternative drugs available in the market today. Taking these medicines can expose you to the varied side effects of these drugs, and your acid reflux is more likely to return when you stop taking medication.
Apart from the medicines, it is possible to make some changes in the eating habits to deal with reflux. While adjusted eating habits or the lifestyle changes can be effective, there is no guarantee.
There are many tests which can be done if the symptoms still persist after the changes you make in your lifestyle and taking medicines. All of these changes need to be done with the proper consultation and guidance of your doctor.
Alternative to the above options of medicines and enduring painful tests is surgery. Surgery is typically the best option when compared to a lifetime of medication that causes irritating side effects and discomfort.
Surgery performed properly can give you positive long term effects and good health.
The long term effect:
Acid reflux is a condition when the contents or the acid from your stomach flows back in the throat through the esophagus. Infants and children are also seen suffering from acid reflux disease. This is caused because of the weak functioning of the valve which connects the throat and esophagus. The valve which closes and opens to release the gas after the meal, due to its weak functioning sometimes allows some food contents to come back into our throat.
There are many medications available in the market for acid reflux. But sometimes these medicines just don't prove to be beneficial for acid reflux. In such cases then, surgery can be the best option to cure this disease in the long run. This surgery can be performed in two ways: Laparoscopy and Plicator. The first procedure, laparoscopy, is quite severe, and most patients don't choose it. The second and preferred technique, plicator, is now available for the patients suffering from acid reflux.
Laparoscopy: In this procedure, a small camera is inserted by making a small incision. The surgeon can see a clear and a bigger picture through this camera on a monitor and can perform the surgery. General anesthesia is needed during this operation.
Plicator: This is a new type of surgery which is less severe. An instrument, called plicator, is run down from a tube in the throat of the patient. Local anesthesia is given to the patient during this surgery. The surgeon tightens the valve .This surgery takes approximately 30 minutes, and the patient is discharged usually within 24 hours.
The patient may need to go through this surgery again after few years to retighten the valve.
